  2. Space Dimension Controller - Exostack

    Space Dimension Controller - Exostack

R&S welcomes back Space Dimension Controller's Jack Hamill for a EP of his trademark future-funk, his first for the label since 2013. The EXOSTACK EP marks a welcome return from Hamill to the kind of astro-boogie that made him a unifying favourite in any discerning DJ's record box. The title track is a masterclass of wide-eyed astral disco - cycling euphoric arpeggios underpinned by dubbed out bass riffs and swooning pads. Unfurling over a sizeable 8 minutes, Hamill justifies every second with a beguiling arrangement that takes the listener on a groove excursion of epic proportions. On the flip, red hot Swede Kornél Kovács delivers a tuff rerub that jacks up the drums, and cools out the chords, twisting the original into a classic house roller. SDC original 'BIOPAN' finds Hamill in more contemplative mood - pulsing drums, a subdued bass figure and woozy synth melodies combine to haunting effect.

  3. Unknown Archetype - Tripp Ep

    Unknown Archetype - Tripp Ep

Unknown Archetype AKA Roxy Tripp & Oliver Kucera debut their visceral experimental techno for R&S on this three track EP Unknown Archetype is a collaborative project between Roxy Tripp, a British conceptual artist & music producer, and Oliver Kucera a Czech born Producer & Live performer, residing in the Netherlands. With an extensive background of solo projects in the underground scene, the duo began their collaboration together as Unknown Archetype in 2015. The TRIPP EP is an abrasive, visceral EP of electronic body music underpinned by themes of Jungian psychology, symbolism and mythology. The industrial tech funk of lead track Voyeurism kicks things off - skittering breakbeats, squalling filters and blistering snares pile-driving the listener into ecstatic submission, while 'Tripp' see the duo employing sizzling bursts of white noise and caustic percussion over a jagged rhythm box figure. Matters are pared right back for the rigid austerity of closer 'The Serpent' - the dubbed out lead stab quivers over a strobing 909 drum groove and scything cymbals. Effortlessly balancing deep late night sounds with a unique character and intricate headphone centric programming, the TRIPP EP is a fitting and welcome addition to R&S's storied catalogue.

  5. Lakker - Containing A Thousand

    Lakker - Containing A Thousand

After a decade of creating some of "the most distinctive techno around" (Resident Advisor) for the likes of Blueprint and Stroboscopic Artefacts, R&S is delighted to welcome Dublin based duo, Lakker into the fold with their stunning new EP 'Containing A Thousand'. Lakker: 'We're delighted to be releasing on R&S. It's one of those labels that has been huge in electronic music for years - anyone who is into modern electronic music will have a few R&S records in their collection. Ourselves included - classics from Joey Beltram and AFX up to the recent Tessela stuff. It's all in our bag!" Their intricate, yet muscular soundscapes and skittering percussion have an epic, alien quality that set them head and shoulders above their less ambitious peers; witness the blistering noise of the brooding title track, the staggered, slurping beats and mechanistic clanks of 'Mausoleum', the crisp, propulsive grooves of 'K'antu' and jagged slashing drums of 'Thermohaline'. Having a background in punk, metal and broken beat as well as noise and techno helps give Lakker their truly unique and uncompromising sound - indeed their music has won them the most coveted recommendation in electronic music - Richard D James (Aphex Twin) himself has been known to deploy multiple Lakker tracks in his face melting live sets.

  6. Struction - Gefuge

    Struction - Gefuge

Following a killer split 12' w/ Djrum for the Zenker Brother's Ilian Tape label, new artist Struction debuts for R&S Newcomer Struction joins the R&S family for a titanic EP of dystopian post-rave experimentation - the 4 track release, entitled 'Gefüge', effortlessly crystallises the best parts of R&S's storied musical heritage without coming off like pastiche. From the jacked menace of opener 'Kreen', a dizzying percussive assault of breakbeats and 808 kicks, it's clear that Struction means business. 'Warrior' follows on with deep end breakbeats cut through with melancholic synth washes. The flip side commences with 'Ai', all skittering percussion, swelling distorted pads and relentless kick drum thrum, while 'Dolly' rounds out the release in fine style, quickening the pulse with its hypnotic FM bass polyrhythms, scything cymbals and icy strings. With this release Struction marks himself as one to watch very closely for the future, as well as once again showing R&S's commitment to nurturing new talent, as well as releasing the best cutting edge electronic music.
